Submitted by Patti Piburn
Wednesday, August 11th, 9:17 am

PISMO BEACH - A Central Coast Barista has created a drink that is giving her international recognition.

Jessica Ontiveros works at the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf in Pismo Beach.

Her unique take on a classic cappuccino landed her in her district's competition.

She won the district competition, then the regional contest, followed by the national competition, finally landing her in Vietnam for the international competition.

While in Vietnam she had to pull a shot of espresso, make a classic cappuccino as well as show off a signature drink.

Her "Cosmoccino" helped her win the top prize.

Ontiveros says, "I started messing around with like steaming different stuff in my milk. And I ran into raspberry sugar that we had in the back from the holiday season and threw that in the pitcher before steaming my milk. And when I started steaming it, it turned pink...

Avila Valley Barn

Submitted by John Zuchelli
Thursday, November 12th, 12:07 pm

NEAR AVILA BEACH - Nearly a quarter of century ago, the Avila Valley Barn sold it's first produce. It was a humble barn that worked because customers picked the fruit themselves. Twenty-four years later, the barn is a thriving business filled with laughter and smiles.

Owners of the barn say that it grew because, simply, one thing led to another. They had left over berries, so the created a bakery to make fruit pies. They had a pluthera of children visiting, so they brought in dwarfed animals for them to feed. Most recently, a Sweet Shoppe has sprung to life, offering up tasty ice cream, fudge and candy.

The Avila Valley Barn operates all year around but it really comes life in Fall. They have a massive pumkin patch and hayrides to celebrate the season in full.
