Disabled veterans, police and firefighters, along with other adults & children will travel to Pismo Beach September 10th - 16th to experience the thrill of surfing.  Many of these soldiers, sailors, airmen & marines lost limbs, were burned, or have PTSD from serving in operations overseas while police and fire heroes were injured in the line of duty.   AmpSurf's trained instructors, along with professional and local surfers will provide the instruction for Operation Restoration.

This marks the fifth year of our Operation Restoration and the eighth year AmpSurf has been putting these events together.  AmpSurf's goal is to Promote, Inspire, Educate, and Rehabilitate these true American heroes through the healing power of the ocean and adaptive surfing.   AmpSurf's events have grown from serving only a few to now serviing more than 300 people each year.

Pismo Exhibit Explores Early Central Coast History

Submitted by Laurie
Monday, July 19th, 4:17 pm

For more than a hundred years people from the inland valleys of California have been escaping the summer heat by visiting Pismo Beach.  A new exhibit -- Early Pismo, Vignettes and Photographs -- explores some of the fascinating people, places and events that have created this small Central Coast haven. Early aviators, restaurateurs, real estate agents, bootleggers, prostitutes, soldiers, farmers, and even Al Capone found work, rest or recreation in the area. The exhibit opens Saturday with a special presentation by local historian Effie McDermott at 2 PM at the South County Historical Society’s IOOF Hall, 128 Bridge Street in Arroyo Grande.

This exhibit is the first of three events that will explore Pismo’s rise, fall and rebirth as a tourist mecca halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles.
