Submitted by John Zuchelli
Wednesday, July 28th, 1:55 pm

PISMO BEACH-It has been brought to the attention of the Pismo Beach Police Department that new Internet lottery scam is circulating. This particular scam is an old Nigerian Lottery Scam with a new twist. The scam e-mail is sent to the “Beneficiary” from the Department of Homeland Security Office in Montgomery, Alabama. This scam advises the beneficiary that they have legally won a large amount of money from an unnamed Lottery Company outside the United States. This e-mail indicates that the Department of Homeland Security has checked out the legitimacy of this lottery and has authorized the winnings be paid to the beneficiary.  The e-mail then states that the winning beneficiary will be paid via a Certified Cashier’s Check.

Pismo PD to Reinstate K-9 Program

Submitted by Patti Piburn
Monday, July 19th, 9:41 am

The Pismo Beach Police Department is adding a new weapon to its arsenal of crime-fighting tools, a K-9 team.

Starting next month, the Police Department will reinstate its K-9 program thanks to community donations and a generous check from Les Davidson.

Davidson owns Just Cruzin’ Productions, which stages the annual summer car show on Father’s Day weekend in Pismo Beach. He has routinely donated the proceeds from the show’s auction to worthwhile causes around the state.

This year, Davidson said he opted to give one-third of the money raised at the recent auction to the Police Department for a K-9 unit.

“Are you kidding, Les? That’s incredible,” Police Chief Jeff Norton said at the July 6 City Council meeting, where Davidson presented a $15,000 check to the department.

“I’m stunned,” Norton added.

After a high-speed chase into Santa Maria, police arrested a man accused of stealing a car from a home in Shell Beach overnight Sunday.

Marcus Lee Williams, 20, was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of reckless driving while evading an officer, receiving stolen property and car theft — all felonies — and misdemeanor vandalism, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

He remained there as of late Sunday in lieu of $25,000 bail, according to the jail.

Just after 2:30 a.m., a woman reported that she heard her car being pulled away from her home, according to the Pismo Beach Police Department.

Officers found the car along southbound Highway 101 at Five Cities Drive, and tried to pull it over near Halcyon Road, police said.

Arroyo Grande City Councilman Ed Arnold Enters Plea to Child Porn Charges

Submitted by Patti Piburn
Thursday, April 15th, 9:30 am

The attorney for embattled Arroyo Grande Councilman Ed Arnold came out swinging on Wednesday, following the mayor's call for Arnold's resignation.

His remarks came after Arnold's first court appearance on child pornography charges.

Ilan Funke-Bilu, Arnold's attorney, is fired up over what happened at Tuesday night's Arroyo Grande City Council meeting.

He says the request for Arnold's resignation was politically motivated.

Although he was absent from Tuesday's meeting, Councilman Arnold did appear before a judge, Wednesday morning.

He plead not guilty to two additional felonies: possessing child pornography and using a minor for pornographic purposes.

Funke-Bilu says his client is innocent and will continue to serve the city.

"I think what the council is doing is B.S. -- You can quote me on that," said Funke-Bilu.
